Recyclable Bottles – The Ultimate Low Jack Device

So time for a little bit of a funny aside story.. It starts out not very funny though when earlier this week a thief was able to gain entry to our garage and took around $700 in camping supplies and strangely enough our bags of recyclable bottles.  We called the Calgary city police service and they sent someone by to gather details.  We gave information on the camping supplies (which included two large MEC expedition bags).  It’s funny but everyone (including myself) found the theft of the bags of bottles funny and understandable.  Easy and quick cash right?  I was thinking about how loud and annoying the bags would have been.. but I guess I’m not a criminal for a reason right?

Now here is where things get a little bit weird and funny… We received a call a few hours later that the guy had been caught with our stuff.  Apparently he had decided to take the bottles in to the nearest bottle depot by us in a stolen car.  I can just imagine the constable sitting in his car deciding if he should take the time to swing by the nearest bottle depot and check out license tags.  In his shoes I would have sat there thinking.. “Nah.. nobody is THAT stupid..” but thankfully he’s not me and he did take the time to check it out.

So this is a big thank you to the Calgary City Police for finding our stolen gear (which wasn’t worth claiming through insurance due to a $500 deductible) and a laugh at how sometimes fate turns out.  We get our stuff back and someone else gets their car back all because of a few bags of recyclable bottles.
